Chiiiile… let’s go ahead and sip this tea real quick because some of us are holding ourselves back without even realizing it. You keep saying you want new. You keep praying for elevation. You keep declaring, “This is my season!” But truth be told? You’re still clutching onto old luggage like it’s your lifeline. And let me tell you something — you cannot walk into the new season God has for you if your arms are still full of bags from the last one.

Let’s be honest — old luggage looks different for all of us. For some, it’s a toxic relationship you know you’ve outgrown but keep revisiting out of comfort. For others, it’s a circle of friends who thrive on gossip and drama, but you keep them close because you’re scared to be alone. And then there are the habits — procrastination, poor discipline, self-doubt — that you drag with you like a carry-on that keeps weighing you down. Sis, greater requires baggage check. You can’t board God’s flight to purpose overloaded with junk from your past.

Here’s the truth you don’t want to hear — release is necessary for increase. You cannot expect God to pour into you when you’re still cluttered with what He’s been telling you to put down. You can’t say, “God, I’m ready,” while secretly holding on to things that scream you’re not. Greater is calling, but God won’t bless you with new if He knows the old will choke it out.

So, here’s the decision: either you keep lugging around what doesn’t serve you, or you drop it at the gate and step into what God has prepared. And yes, it’s scary. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. But so is staying stuck. At some point, you have to love yourself enough to say, “This doesn’t fit me anymore.” Because sis, you can’t take old luggage into a new season.

✍🏾 Journal Prompt:

  • What “old luggage” am I still carrying that doesn’t serve my greater calling?
  • Why am I afraid to release it?
  • What will I gain when I finally let it go?

💛 Affirmation:

I am not bound by my past.
I release the old and make room for the new.
God is preparing me for greater, and I will not hold onto what no longer fits.

🙏🏾 Prayer:

Father, thank You for calling me into a new season. Show me the areas of my life where I am still holding on to what no longer serves me. Give me the strength to release what You are asking me to lay down, and the faith to trust that You are leading me toward something greater. Help me to walk into my new season with open hands, ready to receive everything You have for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
