Chiiiile… let me go ahead and keep it funky. Prayer, we can do. Worship, we love. But when it comes to fasting? Whew, suddenly we “ain’t got time” or “maybe next week.” But here’s the truth: fasting is one of the most overlooked and most powerful tools you can use in your waiting season. It’s not about starving yourself or trying to “earn” something from God. It’s about discipline, clarity, and creating space for His voice to cut through the noise.
Waiting seasons can be loud. Bills screaming. Doubt whispering. Social media distracting. Family drama knocking at your door. And in all of that chaos, it can feel nearly impossible to hear God. That’s where fasting comes in. Fasting doesn’t move God — it moves you. It positions you to tune in to His voice with less static in the background. It says, “Lord, I’m laying this down so I can hear You more clearly.”
And fasting doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. For some, it’s fasting from food. For others, it’s putting down social media, gossip, negativity, or even that “situationship” you keep running back to. Whatever it is, fasting is about denying your flesh so your spirit can breathe. It’s about shifting your appetite from what feeds your distractions to what feeds your destiny.
Here’s the Tea & Truth: fasting is hard. Your flesh will throw tantrums. You’ll try to convince yourself it doesn’t take all that. But fasting isn’t about comfort — it’s about clarity. And when you start fasting in your waiting season, don’t be surprised when your discernment sharpens, your spirit steadies, and your prayers feel different. That’s the fruit of fasting — it clears out the noise so you can finally hear the whisper of God.
✍🏾 Journal Prompt:
- What distractions are keeping me from hearing God clearly in my waiting season?
- What can I choose to fast from this week to create space for His voice?
- How do I want my fasting to strengthen my spirit and discipline?
💛 Affirmation:
Fasting brings me clarity and strength.
I release distractions and open my spirit to God’s voice.
In my waiting, I am being refined, disciplined, and prepared.
🙏🏾 Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of fasting. Help me to see it not as a burden but as a powerful tool to grow closer to You. Show me what I need to release so I can hear Your voice more clearly. Strengthen me when fasting feels hard, and remind me of the clarity and discipline that comes through sacrifice. Let my fasting align my heart with Your will and prepare me for the greater You have ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
With love, truth, and the kind of grace that doesn’t sugarcoat,
