Chiiiile… let’s just sip this tea together because this is one of those truths folks don’t want to hear: you cannot build a mansion while hanging out with people who are content living in a shack. Your circle matters. The energy, the mindset, the habits of the people around you will rub off on you whether you like it or not. You can pray for success all day, but if you’re surrounded by folks who are allergic to growth, it’s only a matter of time before you start shrinking too.

The research is loud on this one. Dr. David McClelland of Harvard found that 95% of your success or failure is determined by who you habitually associate with. Let that marinate. Almost all of your progress, your growth, your future, is influenced by your circle. If you’re surrounded by people who complain more than they create, gossip more than they grind, and settle more than they stretch, it’s going to choke out your momentum.

Here’s the raw truth: sometimes you outgrow your circle, and that’s okay. Growth is supposed to shift your relationships. It doesn’t mean you love people any less, but it does mean you have to prioritize your purpose. Surround yourself with people who sharpen you, who inspire you, who hold you accountable, who make you want to stretch higher. That doesn’t mean they’re perfect, but it does mean they’re committed to growing with you.

Sis, here’s your reminder: energy is contagious. If you want to change your life, start by changing your circle. Choose mentors who are ahead of you, peers who push you, and friends who pray for you. Stop apologizing for needing more. Stop dimming your light because the people around you don’t want to shine. Greater requires pruning. Your success is not just about what you’re building — it’s also about who’s building with you.

✍🏾 Journal Prompt:

  • Who in my circle sharpens me, and who drains me?
  • What relationships do I need to redefine or release in this season?
  • Who can I intentionally seek out that aligns with the success I’m working toward?

💛 Affirmation:

My circle reflects my purpose.
I attract relationships that inspire, sharpen, and push me toward greater.
I release connections that no longer align with where I’m going.

🙏🏾 Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gift of relationships. Show me clearly who belongs in my circle and who I need to love from a distance. Help me to surround myself with people who push me closer to You and the purpose You’ve placed in me. Give me wisdom to prune relationships that no longer serve my growth and courage to seek connections that align with my calling. Let my circle reflect my commitment to success and stewardship of the blessings You’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
